Why Fad Diets are Bad
There are a lot of fad diets running around on infomercials and the Internet and you probably have heard of quite a few. With all the big promises and claims from people that used it succeeding dramatically, it is probably something that would interest you.
The problem is that even though they hold such great promises and testimonials that these fad diets never work and are a very bad idea. For most of these fad diets, the weight is only lost temporarily. The problem with fad diets is that almost 90% of the weight you lose is lost from water. After your body loses the water, it will need to rehydrate and will put the weight back on. A diet that causes dehydration can also lead to health problems and can be fatal in the more severe cases.
Even though some of the fad diets don’t seem like they are what you would call a crash diet, and the promises and claims are really high, you should always remember the theory ‘If it’s too good to be true, it usually is’ because even if these fad diets do work, they won’t work permanently. Weeks, months, maybe even years down the road, you will pack the weight back on and lose all motivation to try and get it off again.
The best thing that could happen is that the diet plan actually works and works really well but the whole diet plan is the same that your doctor could have suggested for free.
The worst thing that could happen is that the diet plan is a terrible one and you stop it after a few weeks and end up gaining even more weight in the long haul.
So how can you tell which fad diets are really bad and which might have some promise?
Any of those fad diets that will promise you to lose a lot of weight really fast with barely any effort, and maybe by eating just a lot of one kind of food, is a kind of diet that would never work.
That kind of diet holds a lot of flaws compared to a healthy balanced diet. The company would probably suggest that you take supplements for the nutrients that you don’t get from the food but the problem with supplements is that some of them will need you to eat that particular kind of food for it to actually be activated and that kind of food is not allowed on the diet.
Some of these diets you may be able to keep up with but after a while you may end up showing signs that you have developed some kind of nutritional deficiencies.
With most fad diets, you have very little choice and have to eat the same foods over and over again. While the meals may be good for the first few days, after a few weeks or months of the same foods they will not hold the same great taste that they once did. It’s better to keep switching up what you eat so your metabolism doesn’t steady and it’s not hard to set up a new meal every day that is very healthy.
If the diet gets boring, and with the repetition of the same foods it probably will, you will more than likely start craving the kind of foods that you got fat from to begin with. If this happens and you quit the diet, you may even end up blaming yourself and that will lead to depression which will lead to eating comfort foods and you will more than likely gain even more weight.
As well, most of these fad diets don’t follow the recommendations made by the American Heart Association and the fat amount is not of a reasonable amount in the diet plan. Most of these diets will have you to eat a lot of high fat foods that have low carbohydrates. To do this long term could result in major heart problems and a couple other types of health problems. Not to mention that carbohydrates are energy and we should consume more carbohydrates than fat in most diets anyways.
The company that is selling the diet plan just wants to get your money and sets up good short term plans that could work but the thing is that you probably won’t hit your weight loss goal in the time that the diet finishes. If it is working even minimally, you will continue to go about the diet and you could run into some heart problems because of you continuing the diet that should only be used for a short period of time.
Quite a few of these diets don’t consist of you getting the right serving amount of fruits and vegetables every day and won’t give you much of a variety of foods to choose from.
While these diets might work temporarily, that is just temporarily. This is not an answer for your weight issues and will definitely not repair any of your eating habits that lead to you being overweight or obese. The only way you can lose weight permanently is by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one and that means to diet properly and to exercise regularly.
Whatever you read in the magazines, see on TV, or here from the testimonials that the company gives, these fad diets will not help you lose weight in the long haul. These are not stable diets and are just a waste of your time. If you are serious about losing weight, speak to your doctor for the right diet plan, follow that, and exercise regularly – losing weight really is that simple but it takes dedication, it isn’t as easy as just paying a company for their techniques and the weight vanishing without moving.
