Staying Motivated to Lose Weight
Finding motivation to lose weight can be difficult, and maintaining it in order to keep the weight off that you lose and stick to your diet and exercise regiment can be next to impossible. Like new years day resolutions, most people at some point in their life have made a plan to lose weight, eat properly and get exercise but despite the numbers who actually sign up to the gym, few actually from week to week.
As time goes on its often the case that we don’t simply lose motivation but forget our reasons for being so motivated in the first instance. However, there are several ways for you to stay motivated and stick to your goal of losing weight.
Firstly, it is a good idea to get rid of any ‘problem’ foods that you have in your house, after all you can’t eat unhealthy foods unless you leave yourself the opportunity to eat them. ‘Problem’ foods are those snacks that you are drawn to in times of crisis or when you depressed. Instead only keep your cupboards stocked with low fat, low calorie foods that you wont be tempted to eat to excess. Also, try and avoid processed foods that are likely to be high in fat and calories.
Set a number of realistic and attainable goals for losing your weight. Having smaller goals allows you to stay motivated and keep on track, it also makes setting deadlines easier to help you chart your progress. Weight loss, like a journey, must be planned stage by stage
Stay motivated to lose weight by creating incentives and rewards for when you reach your weight loss goals. For example when you drop ‘X’ pounds you may decide to buy a DVD or an item of clothing. Clothing is a particularly good incentive as it will motivate you to stay in that new dress size.
Don’t be too hard on yourself and allow yourself the occasional treat such as a meal in a nice restaurant. This doesn’t necessarily have to be food; instead it may be a day out, a trip to the cinema, or a weekend vacation.
