Six Ways to Make Money with Your Website

The primary goal of any website is to make money with it. A website may be either an Ecommerce website or an informational website. An E commerce website primarily earns money by selling various products and services. But for informational websites, the main sources of income are advertisements. But there are other sources of income too. The following are the different ways to make money from your website:

(i) ‘Pay Per Click’ advertising:

‘Pay Per Click’ or PPC advertising is the most popular source of income for a website.
There are various PPC networks of which the most popular is Google Adsense. The others are Yahoo, Chitika, Bidvertiser, clicksor etc. When you sign up with a PPC network, you will be supplied with some ad codes which have to be pasted on your web pages. These ads are relevant to the subject of your website. You will earn some money for every click on these ads. The amount earned may vary from $0.10 to a $1.00 per click. The profitability largely depends on the level of traffic. The higher the traffic, the greater will be the profits. The profitability also depends on the niche of the website. Some niches such as, Mortgages, Financial products etc. generally have a high cost per click.

(ii) CPM advertising:

CPM advertising networks are similar to PPC networks except you are paid per impression or page view of the ad displayed on your site. The rate may vary from one network to another. It also depends on the position and format of the ad. Some of the popular CPM networks are Value Click, Advertising.com etc.

(iii) Banner Advertising:

If you have a large traffic, you can directly sell advertising space on your website. This is called direct banner advertising. It is very profitable as there are no middlemen costs involved.

(iv) Other forms of advertising:

There are other forms of advertising such as, Pop-up and Pop-under ads, Audio ads or ‘Pay Per Play’ (PPP), text link ads etc. which can be used to generate revenue from your website.

(v) Affiliate Marketing:

Affiliate marketing is another very popular way to earn money from your website. It involves selling other people’s products for a commission. The amount of commission may be as high as 80%. Some very popular affiliate networks are Clickbank, Commission Junction, Link Share etc.

(Vi) Others:
Other sources of income may include having a job board or market place on your website. You may also add a ‘Donate’ link or button. This is also a good way to earn money.
