Male circumcision has been advocated for prevention from a lot of sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS and herpes, but the female circumcision is one topic that still needs a little more research before arriving at a a conclusion.
I don’t think its proper to judge other people’s customs without knowing what they are really all about. I am happily circumcised and am very proud of it. I had it done to keep my genitals clean as the smegma collecting underneath my clitoris was smelly and offensive to my husband during oral sex and also kept me down with infections. The doctor who did it removed a good part of the hood and I no longer encounter these problems. My sex life has also greatly improved.
And to think of it, my religion actually commands me to do it. Its a good thing really if only you experienced it. Even western women are going for it in a big way. They call it hoodectomy.
